It is with great sadness that I write this post from the U.K. As beautiful as the weather has been here, there is now a massive cloud in our lives.
Mel and I returned to the U.K. recently from America after hearing the tragic tragic news of the passing of his beautiful sister Kerri Watt ❤️ This news shook us all to the core and of course we just wanted to be with family at this sad time but what life has continually showed me over the years is that life is short and can be very very cruel 💔 and you really have to make the most of it, in the little time you have.
As some of you may know Mel & I where on a journey across Europe and America, working and cycling, making our way towards Vegas to get married. Kerri was super excited about our upcoming wedding plans and had secretly booked to come over to be with us on our big day ❤️ she loved her brother so much and family was so important to her. She also told me she had always wanted a sister and was really happy she had one now in me ❤️ I loved this and I was very proud to be that for her and we would chat away about the wedding, relationships and her gorgeous kids (who she would send me pictures of all the time, captioned we love and miss you aunty Jen) I’m so grateful I am going to be part of such a loving family.
Mel and I were not sure at first what we would do after returning to the U.K. and if we would continue on with the wedding and the travel with everything that has happened but Kerri was so excited about it all and So happy for us we know that we have to carry on and carry on with Kerri’s larger than life attitude 👌🏼So we have decided that we are going to re adjust the original plans and continue on this adventure to Vegas and Kerri will be in our hearts and thoughts every step of the way 💕💕💕 her big beaming smile an image to keep us going when times get tough.
So Mel was originally cycling around the globe and I was working in Minnesota but now we will cycle together, we have purchased some cheap mountain bikes (matching of course 😝) and tomorrow we will fly to Venice. From there we will cycle to Munich as that’s where we found the cheapest flight to Vegas! Another reason we have bought new bikes is because Mels super expensive touring bike was unfortunately stolen from Chicago’s millennium park 🙈 so this time we are doing it cheaper but will also be a lot more vigilant. Mel experienced such overwhelming kindness and compassion on his trip but this was a reminder your guard does need to stay up when relying on the kindness of strangers to get by.
So from Venice to Munich we will cycle through Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany. We will do this in 5 weeks to make our flight to Vegas on the 20th of August. We will be camping, couch surfing and using the warm showers website to rest our heads and our little gas stove to cook noodles a plenty 🤗 living day by day and playing it by ear as to where and when we sleep/eat & shower! Then we will have a week of rest and will be tying the knot in Vegas with Mels lovely family flying out to spend the week with us. It will be an emotional day for us, remembering lost loved ones but a day full of love, fun and festivities 💕💕💕
From there we will catch a flight to San Francisco and cycle to LA. Then on to Japan. There are going to be some very difficult days and days when we are tired and having to cycle and sleep in wind and rain and I will be getting the dreaded hanger 😂🙈 when hunger becomes anger 😂 but it will all be worth it to see all these wonderful places in the world and an experience we will never forget.
We will be setting up a JustGiving page this evening as we will be hoping to raise some money with our cycling for the Diabetes U.K. charity. It is a charity incredibly close to our hearts and one we feel really strongly about raising awareness for. Kerri was a type one diabetic and it was something she really struggled with her whole life and in the end it contributed to her death 💔 although it was not the sole factor, had it not been for her diabetes then the combination of unlucky and tragic events may not have lead to such a devastating outcome and therefor myself and Mel really want to use this journey as a platform to raise awareness and get people talking about the charity and hopefully we can have a positive impact and potentially help future families faced with this awful disease. So any donations and shares for the page would be greatly appreciated ❤️🙏 ❤️
We will be thinking about Kerri and her beautiful babies as we set off on this next chapter in our lives and we hope to do her proud. She gets to meet my Dad now and they can look down on our big day together 💕💕💕 Love you always xxx
And can I just add that a white butterfly literally just landed on my phone 💕💔😭🙏
